Kennewick First United Methodist Church plaza

The iconic church at the corner of West Kennewick and South Dayton Street in downtown Kennewick is preparing to build a new entry and public plaza.

The project which includes modernizing the adjacent sidewalks and on-street parking is designed by CKJT Architects. The new plaza will be immediately east of the main sanctuary.

Permits are pending, according to Kennewick building records.

Burgerville at last?

Burgerville USA has secured the permits it needs to convert a former Sonic drive-In near Columbia Center into a new outpost for the Vancouver, Wash.-based regional burger chain.

Burgerville will remodel the former Sonic and construct an 880-square-foot dining room, according to permits issued in March by the city of Kennewick.

The project has a construction value of $650,000 and is being advanced by Sortis QRS Holdings, a financial partner.

Burgerville confirmed its interest in entering the Tri-Cities last summer as it worked to expand its reach.

T.J. Nisbet Construction Inc. is the contractor. LLB Architecture is the designer.

Established in 1961, Burgerville restaurants are largely concentrated along Interstate 5 in Washington and Oregon. It announced a multi-year expansion strategy in 2024.

Sonic closed in September 2022, but the signs have remained in place and no visible work has started. The property is owned by Washington Securities & Investment.

The long-empty David’s Bridal shop near Columbia Center is being repurposed for Habit Burger.

The $200,000 project includes a new exterior and signs as well as new interior, kitchen and restaurant amenities.

Rich Duncan Construction Inc. is the contractor. BPG Investments IX LLC is the property owner.

Metro Mart Gas Station

A new Metro Mart convenience store and gas station is being built at West 10th Avenue and South Olympia, near Riverview Heights Cemetery in central Kennewick.

The $1.3 million project is being built for Mahal Investments Central Kennewick LLC by Thorn Construction Group. Baker Architecture is the designer.

AutoZone Inc. store

AutoZone Inc., the auto parts chain with a massive distribution center in Pasco, is building a 7,384-square-foot retail building at Richland’s Target-anchored Vintner Square.

The city approved building permits for the $1.6 million project in March and the new building is already rising from its spot next to Les Schwab Tires, near Grocery Outlet.

Corstone Contractors is the contractor.

HAPO Community Credit Union

608 Williams Blvd.

HAPO Community Credit Union has secured a permit to construct an office in central Richland at the site of a commercial kitchen.

The two-story office will have about 2,300 square feet in central Richland. It has a construction value of about $460,000.

LCR Construction LLC is the contractor. DKEI Architectural Services is the designer.
