Three Rivers Convention Center Expansion
7016 Grandridge Blvd.
Preparation work has started on one of the largest public sector developments coming down the line in the Tri-Cities — the $71.3 million expansion of the Three Rivers Convention Center by the city of Kennewick and the Kennewick Public Facilities District.
Lydig Construction is the contractor for project, which will add 115,000 square feet to the regional meeting facility. ALSC Architects, which designed the original center, designed the update to seamlessly merge the new building with the old.
Preliminary work is focused on adding new parking to the area, said Corey Pearson, manager of the convention center campus.
At its heart, the addition will feature a 60,000-square-foot meeting hall, which can be configured with up to six basketball courts. The project is a key economic development initiative conceived to attract business and visitors to the Tri-Cities.
The convention center is funded with bonds that will be repaid from convention center earnings, sales taxes authorized by the state Legislature and a contribution from Benton County’s Rural Capital Fund.
