Chiawana wrestler Josh Alvarez and Tri-Cities Prep basketball player Talia von Oelhoffen were named WIAA Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 10-16, the association announced Wednesday.

Alvarez, a senior, went 5-0 with four pins to win the 285-pound title at Inland Empire on Dec. 9 at Central Valley High School in Spokane, then won big again the following weekend at Tri-State in Coeur d’Alene.

The freshman von Oelhoffen led the Jaguars to a 3-0 week by setting a school record with 43 points in a win over Naches Valley, adding 10 rebounds and eight assists, then scoring 38 points against White Swan. She also had 10 points and 14 assists in a win over DeSales.
