Mid-Columbia: Cortes leads Prosser girls past Pasco

Marissa Cortes scored a game-high 26 points to help Prosser to a 73-46 nonleague road victory Tuesday over Pasco.

Cortes scored 10 of her points in a 22-8 run in the second quarter for a 38-24 lead at the half.

“The first quarter was pretty tight, then we pulled away in the second,” Prosser coach Kyler Bachofner said. “We had a good third quarter, and in the fourth we put our bench in bit.”

Madison Stallcop added eight points in the second quarter for the Mustangs (5-0 overall, 3-0 CWAC).

Cortes added five rebounds, five steals and nine assists, Brooke Wheeler chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

Pasco was led by Maylie Martinez with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Bella Gutierrez added 13 points and seven rebounds.

“I think we broke loose tonight and played like I think we are capable,” Bachofner said. “We have had a tough road schedule. This was a good road win. By no means did They (Pasco) not play well. They drove the lane well, but we were able to stop them in the paint and that made the difference.”

MOSES LAKE 84, KAMIAKIN 62: Oumou Toure’s career-high 44 points was impressive, but the Braves dropped their nonleague road game to the Chiefs.

Moses Lake ran out to a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 27-21 at the half. But a 33-13 run by the Chiefs in the third was the telling difference on the night.

Toure scored 24 of her points in the four quarter. Alexa Hazel added 14 points, and Regan Clark four, as they were the only three players to score for Kamiakin.

Jamie Loera led Moses Lake with 29 points.

COLUMBIA-BURBANK 37, GRANGER 31: The Coyotes outscored the Spartans 24-15 in the second half to pick up the nonleague road win.

Ali Martineau led Burbank with nine points, While Jadyn Johnson added eight.

SUNNYSIDE 75, GRANDVIEW 58: Ashlee Maldonado had a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds to lead the Grizzlies to a nonleague road win over the Greyhounds.

While the game was even the final three quarters, it was a 26-7 outburst by Sunnyside in the first that dictated the game.

Grace Meza led Grandview with 23 points, while Karina Fajardo added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Michelle Ruiz 12 points and four steals.

TRI-CITIES PREP 68, NACHES VALLEY 48: Freshman Talia von Oelhoffen scored a single-game school record 43 points to lead the Jaguars over the visiting Rangers in nonleague action.

Makenna Brandner added 13 points and 10 rebounds for TCP.

Boys Basketball

CHIAWANA 59, WEST VALLEY 46: The Riverhawks led from start to finish in their nonleague home win over the Rams.

Matthew Kroner led Chiawana with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Taylor Kroll added 13 points and five rebounds.

Malachy Coffrey led West Valley with 15 points.

PROSSER 74, PASCO 57: Teegan Cox had 25 points to lead the Mustangs to a nonleague win over the host Bulldogs.

“We played at a good pace tonight and ran more half court offense,” Prosser coach Toby Cox said. “I still really like the effort the entire team puts out. We are coming together pretty good for only being five games into the season.”

Chase Courtney added 16 points and five rebounds for Prosser, while Andre Vanguardia had 10 points and five rebounds.

CONNELL 63, EPHRATA 62: Silas Chase hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 5 seconds remaining to give the visiting Eagles their first lead since the first quarter, and they hung on for their first win of the season.

Austin Smith had 18 points for Connell (1-3) and Ridge Pauley knocked down five of the Eagles’ 12 3-pointers to account for all of his scoring. Caden Blankenship led Ephrata (3-2) with 19 points.

GRANGER 64, COLUMBIA-BURBANK 42: Reece Humphreys scored 14 points, but the Coyotes came up short in their road game against the Spartans.

Adrian Soliz scored all 13 of his points in the second half to lead Granger.

TRI-CITIES PREP 57, NACHES VALLEY 56: Stefan Geist had 16 points, and Max Nelson added 15 points and nine rebounds as the host Jaguars beat the Rangers in nonleague action.

TCP had an early lead, only to see Naches chip away at the lead before falling in the end.

Kobe Singleton added 11 points, four assists and two steals for TCP.

Bowling

PASCO 4, CONNELL 0: Bella Bach rolled games of 157 and 176 for the Bulldogs in a sweep of the Eagles at Town and Country Lanes.

Pasco finished the day with a 463 pin advantage.

Lexi Olson led Connell with games of 141 and 133.

HANFORD 3, WALLA WALLA 1: Sara Harris rolled a 205 and Kylee Horner a 202 as the Falcons won the match and total pin count 1,926-1,776.

KENNEWICK 4, RICHLAND 0: Freshman Skye Wheatley rolled a 191 to lead the visiting Lions past the Bombers in an MCC match.

Sophomore Hailey Zich led Richland with games of 155 and 147.

SELAH 2, CHIAWANA 2: After splitting their first two games and the baker games, the Vikings beat the Riverhawks on pin count, 1962-1917.

Caitlynne Burke led Chiawana with games of 170 and 160.

MONDAY BOYS BASKETBALL

SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 61, KIONA-BENTON 56: The host Bears kept it close the whole way, but couldn’t upset the reigning 1B state champion Knights in a nonleague contest.

Daniel Rizin led Ki-Be (2-2) with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Saul Quinones added 14 points.

Sunnyside Christian (3-0) led 49-42 heading into the fourth quarter, which turned out to be its biggest lead of the game. Lane Marsh scored a game-high 18 points for the Knights.
