Chiawana girls get past Richland on MCC Opening Night

The Chiawana High School girls basketball team opened its Mid-Columbia Conference slate on Friday with a 54-46 at home over the Richland Bombers.

Clare Eubanks led the way for Chiawana with 15 points and six steals. Macey Morales added 14 points, Delaney Pink 12 points, and Alyssa Agundis 13 rebounds.

Nicole Gall had nine points for Richland, while Hailey Stevens had seven points and six rebounds.

KAMIAKIN 75, SOUTHRIDGE 25: Alexa Hazel scored 19 points, 11 in the first quarter, and Oumou Toure added 16 points as the Braves rolled to a home win over the Suns in their MCC opener.

The Braves went on a 30-3 run in the first quarter and were never challenged.

Chanceler Williams chipped in 11 points for Kamiakin, which saw all 11 players score.

Sami Sanders led the Suns with 12 points.

KENNEWICK 54, WALLA WALLA 43: MeiLani McBee had 16 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 performance from the free-throw line, to power the Lions to a home win over the Blue Devils in their MCC opener.

The Lions held a 12-10 lead after the first quarter, and led 21-20 at the half. A 33-23 run in the second half proved to be the difference.

Faith Hoe led Wa-Hi with nine points, while Emma Wenzel and Lauren Hoe each had eight.

PASCO 49, HANFORD 23: Seline Martinez had a game-high 13 points and Bella Gutierrez made 6 of 7 free throws for 12 points as the visiting Bulldogs (3-2) took down the Falcons in the MCC opener for both teams.

Hanford (1-4) struggled to get anything going on offense, as it was held to three points in the first and third quarters. Olivia Davis and Sarah Ellis each had six points to lead the team in scoring.

PROSSER 46, TOPPENISH 43: Marissa Cortes hit a 3-pointer in the waning seconds to send the Mustangs to a CWAC home win over the Wildcats.

A 17-9 run in the fourth quarter was key in helping Prosser catch Toppenish down the stretch.

Cortes led the Mustangs (6-0, 4-0 CWAC) with 12 points and four rebounds, while Madison Golden had eight points and nine rebounds.

Jenni Johnson paced the Wildcats (2-3, 1-3) with 14 points, while Arianna White added six points and 10 rebounds.

RIVER VIEW 52, KIONA-BENTON 7: The Panthers held the Bears scoreless in the first and third quarters en route an an SCAC East win in Finley.

Serenity Kinsey led River View (4-2, 1-0) with 14 points, while Devyn Holden added 13.

Elzzy Gonzales, Amanda Worel and Mercedes Santoy each had two points for Ki-Be (0-5, 0-1).

COLUMBIA-BURBANK 60, COLLEGE PLACE 32: Shelbie Johnson had a game-high 12 points in leading the Coyotes to a road victory over the Hawks in SCAC East action.

Jadyn Johnson added 11 points for Burbank, which led 37-17 at the half.

Karissa Stubblefield and Lexie Mullen each had six points for College Place.

TRI-CITIES PREP 59, DESALES 39: With Talia von Oelhoffen attracting extra attention, Alyssa Monteon took over the scoring, tossing in 19 points to lead the Jaguars over the Irish.

“They triple-teamed Talia today,” Prep coach Joe Mackay said. “So she passed the ball.”

Von Oelhoffen finished the night with 10 points and 14 assists. Prep (2-2, 1-0) also had 24 offensive rebounds on the night.

Boys basketball

Kamiakin opened the Mid-Columbia Conference season Friday with a 52-32 win over the visiting Southridge Suns.

“We had a whole team effort tonight,” Kamiakin coach Brian Meneely said.

Garrett Paxton led the way for the Braves (3-2 overall, 1-0 MCC) with 21 points, four rebounds and two steals. Champ Grayson added eight points, four rebounds and dished out seven assists as Kamiakin stormed out to a 28-14 lead at the half.

Dante Ragsdale had 12 points and six rebounds for the Suns (2-2, 0-1), who shot a woeful 28.2 percent from the floor. Tristan Smith added 10 points and seven rebounds.

WALLA WALLA 65, KENNEWICK 48: Taylor Hamada scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the first quarter to lead the Blue Devils to an MCC win over the host Lions.

Tyler Greene added 12 points for Wa-Hi (4-1, 1-0), which led 23-12 after the first quarter.

The Lions (3-2, 0-1), led by Jenner Norwood’s 16 points, pulled within 44-41 after three quarters, but couldn’t keep pace as the Blue Devils went on a 21-7 run in the fourth.

HANFORD 58, PASCO 55: The Bulldogs scored 22 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Falcons in their MCC opener in Richland.

Hanford (4-1, 1-0), which shot 55 percent from the floor, got 18 points from Connor Woodward, while Garrett Horner chipped in 13 points, four assists and three steals.

Pasco’s (1-4, 0-1) Diego Gutierrez had a game-high 29 points and six steals.

TOPPENISH 61, PROSSER 59: Chase Courtney had 19 points and nine rebounds, but the host Mustangs fell to the Wildcats (4-1, 3-1) in their first CWAC loss.

Teegan Cox added 14 points for Prosser (4-2, 3-1) and Calvin Maljaars had nine rebounds.

CONNELL 69, WAHLUKE 59: Ridge Pauley led the Eagles (2-3, 1-0) with a game-high 24 points and Silas Chase had 21 as they went on the road to hand the Warriors (4-1, 0-1) their first loss of the season in their SCAC East opener.

Ricky Cabrera had a game-high 35 points for Wahluke and Sergio Pineda 18, but that pretty much accounted for all of the Warriors’ scoring.

COLUMBIA-BURBANK 76, COLLEGE PLACE 43: Gilbert Hernandez poured in 26 points as the Coyotes opened SCAC East play with a road win over the Hawks.

Kyren Morris scored all of his team-high eight points in the first quarter for College Place.

KIONA-BENTON 79, RIVER VIEW 59: The Bears used a 28-19 burst in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and beat the host Panthers in their SCAC East opener.

Saul Quinones led Ki-Be (3-2, 1-0) with 19 points, four assists and three steals, while Daniel Rizin chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds, and 6-foot-5 senior Abe Rheinschmidt eight points, six blocks and 15 rebounds.

Abel Khatthavong led River View with 18 points

TRI-CITIES PREP 59, DESALES 33: The Jaguars kept the perfect season intact, posting a road win over the Irish in their EWAC opener.

Kobe Singleton had 18 points and seven rebounds as Prep ran its record to 4-0. Stefan Geist added 15 points (8 of 8 from the free-throw line) and nine rebounds.

LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 65, WHITE SWAN 58: The Patriots opened the EWAC season with a road victory over the Cougars.

Noah Hayden led LC with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Noah Olsen added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Riley Sullivan 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Kupkana Leavitt led White Swan with 12 points.
