How do you prepare a sold-out stadium brimming with tens of thousands of die-hard Taylor Swift fans awaiting the global star’s return to Seattle?
With more girl power, apparently.
The Eras Tour has already hosted a variety of opening performers like Phoebe Bridgers, Girl in Red and Paramore in concerts across the nation. Now, the sister-trio rock band HAIM and breathy singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams will open for Swift at Lumen Field in Seattle on July 22-23.
Abrams has spent much of the tour with the pop sensation already, but Seattle will be HAIM’s debut in the opening lineup. For the Eras Tour, at least, as the band has toured with Swift in years past.
So, who are these openers and what should you know before seeing them?
Who is Gracie Abrams?
If Gracie Abrams’ last name sounds familiar, that’s because it is. She’s the daughter of acclaimed filmmaker J.J. Abrams, who’s known for producing “Star Trek” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and creating TV shows like “Lost” and “Alias.”
Gracie Abrams released two EPs (in 2020 and 2021) before putting out her debut album “Good Riddance” in February of this year.
She previously opened for Olivia Rodrigo in the young pop star’s “Sour” tour and has headlined three concert tours independently.
Doors open at Lumen Field at 4:30 p.m. and the first performance starts at 6:30, but the order of openers has not been announced. So far in the tour, the two opening performers are on stage for less than 90 minutes, with Swift expected to begin her set around 8 p.m.
Check out these three songs to get ready for Abrams’ set:
▪ “21”
▪ “Where do we go now?”
▪ “Block me out”
Who is HAIM?
Consisting of three sisters from California, Este, Danielle and Alana Haim, the alternative rock band HAIM has seen major success since releasing its debut album. Pronounced HY-am, their last name is Hebrew for “life.”
The sisters have reportedly always been around music, spending their young adult years touring Los Angeles in a family band with their parents. They created HAIM as a side project in 2007, finding various successes individually as well. In 2012, the sisters made HAIM their main focus and released their first EP, “Forever.”
The following year, the siblings released their debut album, “Days Are Gone,” which was critically acclaimed. The album’s 10-year anniversary is this September. Its success landed the band’s spots on numerous soundtracks for blockbuster films, plus tours with Florence + the Machine, Mumford & Sons and Rihanna.
HAIM was featured on Swift’s “evermore” album in “no body, no crime.” The same year, Swift was featured on the band’s expanded “Women in Music Pt. III” album, its third studio release, on “Gasoline.” The album was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys.
Este, Danielle and Alana Haim were also recognized in Glamour’s Women of the Year for 2022. They also earned a slot on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie, Barbie.
The sisters are known for their stage presence, offering live shows with a different sound from their studio recordings. HAIM is so popular live, the sisters sold out Madison Square Garden.
“We don’t care about genre or sticking to any sort of script,” Danielle Haim told Apple Music. “We have the most fun when nothing is off limits.”
The rock band opens for the global pop star at both Seattle dates, as well as California shows in Santa Clara and Los Angeles.
