Tri-Cities felon arrested after found unconscious in car with drugs. A baby was in back
A Tri-Cities man is in jail after being found unconscious in a car in the parking lot of the Richland Target with an infant in the backseat.
Richland police officers responded to a report of a man slumped over in a running vehicle in the parking lot of the Vintner Square Shopping Center on Queensgate in front of Target about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.
When they arrived, they found the man unconscious with drug paraphernalia with an infant in the back seat.
West Richland officers helped detain the suspect who was carrying a stolen, loaded handgun in his front pocket, according to a social media post.
The infant was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center for observation and is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
The man, who is a convicted felon, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, unlawful possession of a gun, possession of a stolen firearm and multiple warrants.
All three of the new charges are felonies, and the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case to determine whether to pursue more charges related to child endangerment.
He was booked into the Benton County jail at 2 a.m. on Sunday. Bail has not yet been set.
