2 Tri-Cities men ID’d as victims of fatal ATV collision near Kennewick
The identities of the two men who died while riding all-terrain vehicles on a rural Finley road on Sunday have been released.
Zachariah “Zach” Haynes, 42, of Kennewick, and Jason Moreland, 49, Finley, were killed after the four-wheeler and mini-bike they were riding struck each other head-on, Benton County Coroner Bill Leach told the Tri-City Herald.
They were discovered in the roadway about 9 p.m. Sunday by another driver, who found the wreck shortly after it happened, Benton County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Clark said. Both died at the scene.
The rural road has no streetlights and is between Perkins and Bowles roads, south of Kennewick.
It still remains unclear whether the two knew each other or if alcohol played a role in the crash.
Since the men died from crash-related injuries, Leach isn’t planning autopsies but he will be testing their blood.
Moreland’s mother owns a home in the neighborhood where he died but lives in California, according to public records.
Haynes, who was a journeyman pipefitter with Local 598, doesn’t appear to have ties to that neighborhood. However, obituary information shows he was a lifelong Finley resident.
Haynes’ cousin, Natausha Burris, started a GoFundMe account to support his family. He has a wife, children and grandchildren.
“The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time,” she posted on GoFundMe. “Any monetary donations will be greatly appreciated and used to help the family cover the expenses.”
