65-year-old homeless man killed by pickup as he crossed a busy Pasco street
A 65-year-old man is dead after being hit while crossing Lewis Street in Pasco on Monday evening.
The man, who is believed to be homeless, was hit about 4:40 p.m. near the Pepsi Bottling Group building on Lewis Street, Franklin County Coroner Curtis McGary told the Tri-City Herald.
“He was crossing the road and apparently the driver didn’t see him,” McGary said.
The man died at the scene.
Pasco police say the man was hit by a pickup truck. The driver is not believed to be at fault.
There are no crosswalks in the busy stretch of Lewis Street, which is less than half a mile from Highway 395. The man also was wearing dark clothing and the sun had set, McGary said.
Police and the coroner’s office are working on finding the man’s family to notify them. He had an address in Benton City, but it’s not clear how long ago he had lived there.
They are waiting to find his family before releasing his identity.
An autopsy is being scheduled.
Pasco police shut down a four-block stretch of Lewis Street between 24th and 28th avenues during the investigation.
