Pickup slams into Denny’s, forcing the Kennewick restaurant to close. 3 were hurt
A crash on Highway 395 sent a pickup slamming into the Kennewick Denny’s restaurant Monday afternoon.
A Suzuki sedan heading north on Highway 395 was trying to take a left onto Kennewick Avenue when it hit a Chevy Avalanche pickup about 2:30 p.m., said Washington State Patrol Trooper Anselmo Sanchez.
The Suzuki driver had a yellow arrow at the time.
The crash sent the pickup careening into the side of a Denny’s at 2801 W.t Kennewick Ave., and appeared to have been stopped from going inside by a steel beam.
Five people were eating in the restaurant at the time of the crash. One was taken to an area hospital with reportedly minor injuries.
The two people in the Suzuki were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with non-life threatening injuries.
The three people in the pickup, which included a young driver along with his mom and brother, were not seriously hurt.
The crash closed the southbound lanes of the highway at the busy intersection, snarling traffic for a time.
The restaurant was closed and it’s unclear when it will be able to reopen.
