Summertime in Tri-Cities can get quite hot, making the prospect of spending an entire day outdoors less than appealing.

How can you still soak up the summer sun without overheating?

Many choose to venture outside later in the evening, when temperatures have cooled.

Families can take advantage of this prime time of day by attending one of several free outdoor movie series at local parks.

Here’s where you can go, and when:

What is Music and the Movies in the Park in Pasco?

The city of Pasco hosts Music and Movies in the Park at various parks throughout this summer.

Each event features a movie showing, and there is often a musical performance beforehand.

Dates and showings include:

  • July 10: Marimba and steel bands, followed by “Bad Guys” at 7 p.m. Location not yet announced.
  • Aug. 1: “The Sandlot” at Memorial Park, 350 North 14th Ave. in Pasco, around 8:30 p.m.
  • Aug. 14: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” at Highland Park, 500 North Wehe Ave. in Pasco, at 7 p.m. Musical guest to be announced.

Does Benton City have movies in the park?

Benton City hosts movies for free once a month at the park at 604 Eighth St. The movie begins at dusk.

The event series kicked off June 20 with a screening of “The Goonies.”

Movie screenings will be held on dates including Saturday, July 18; Saturday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Oct. 10.

Titles for those dates have yet to be announced.

Where is Richland’s outdoor movie series?

The city of Richland hosts an outdoor movie series twice a month.

Showings are at Howard Amon Park at 500 Amon Park Drive. Festivities including games, activities and food vendors begin at 5 p.m. and movies start at dusk.

The movie schedule is:

  • July 10: “The Smurfs”
  • July 24: “Sketch”
  • Aug. 14: “Goat”
  • Aug. 28: “Elio”
  • Sept. 11: “A Minecraft Movie”
  • Sept. 25: “Zootopia 2”

Where can I watch family-friendly movies in Tri-Cities?

Tri-Cities offers other options for free or cheap family-friendly movies this summer, though you’ll have to head inside.

AMC Theatres, 1380 North Louisiana St. in Kennewick., is showing family-friendly movies for just $3 a ticket through Aug. 12.

The Free Summer Movie Series at Fairchild Cinemas, 5020 Convention Drive in Pasco, features multiple no-cost showings of family-friendly films every Wednesday and Thursday through Aug. 13.

The Princess Theatre, 1228 Meade Ave. in Prosser is also hosting a free summer movie series over the summer.

The theater opens at 9:30 a.m., with the movie beginning at 10:30 a.m.

  • July 8: “How To Train Your Dragon” (2025)
  • July 15: “The Princess and the Frog”
  • July 22: “A Minecraft Movie”
