Highly-anticipated $3M car wash now open in central Kennewick
Surf Thru Express opened its second Tri-Cities location after more than a year of construction at a prominent Kennewick intersection.
Surf Thru debuted early Thursday, Feb. 26, with free car washes and a food drive to benefit 2nd Harvest Food Bank.
The car wash is at 624 S. Ely St., off Highway 395. Business hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Surf Thru, based in Bakersfield, Calif., opened its first local car wash in 2025 near the HAPO Center in Pasco.
Surf Thru will offer free car washes through March 1. To claim the free wash, fill out a form at surfthruexpress.com and download the bar code by email. Donations of nonperishable food items food can be dropped off through March 22.
“We’re excited to bring Surf Thru Express to Kennewick and become part of the local community,” Scott Howry, owner, said.
The $3 million project with its $300,000 retaining wall drew considerable attention as it took shape at the intersection of West Seventh Avenue and Highway 395.
Chervenell Construction was the contractor for the 6,700-sqare-foot project, which included building a 9,200-square-foot retaining wall along the highway.
The car wash is accessible from West Seventh Avenue and includes vacuum stations.
