  • Crumbl brought back its Benson Boone-inspired Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie by demand
  • The cookie outsold a Kardashians-themed flavor and drew strong teen fan support
  • The limited-time cookie exits menus July 5, holding a 4.3-star app rating so far

For the first time in Crumbl’s history, a cookie is making an encore — and Eastern Washington fans can’t get enough.

The Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie — a collaboration with Washington state’s own platinum-selling artist Benson Boone — is back on the menu after what company leaders called an “overwhelming” customer response.

At the Richland and Pasco Crumbl locations, the buzz has been just as magical the second time around.

The Crumbl cookie franchise is known for its rotating weekly lineup, but this one was just too popular to be a one-time treat.

Store staff say the Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie even outsold the Kardashians-themed flavor featured for a week in April.

“Fans love it. It was our number one seller in all of our stores,” said Kevin Hatch, who owns the franchises in Richland, Pasco and Yakima. “That’s why we wanted to do an encore and bring it back — because it was so popular.”

The cookie, inspired by Benson Boone’s song Mystical Magical, is anything but ordinary.

It starts with a chocolate base with cookies & cream pieces, topped with lemon, berry and marshmallow frosting, swirled together, then finished with a white chocolate drizzle and a dusting of cookies & cream.

“It’s a complex cookie,” Stina Simonson, the manager, said. “We’ve never done that frosting combination before. It really made us step out of our comfort zone and test out a new frosting technique. It’s been a fun challenge, and our crew has done exceptional.”

Boone, who grew up in Monroe, Wash., went to college in Rexburg, Idaho, where he was reportedly a regular Crumbl customer long before his rise to fame.

“He was a fan of Crumbl before he was doing backflips at the Grammys,” Hatch joked.

Now, fans of Boone and his music are also flipping over the cookie.

A group of teen friends at the Richland store lit up when asked about the collab.

“I was shocked. I didn’t think he would get a cookie,” said Kate Hulick, 16, of West Richland.

“I sent it to the group chat. I was like, guys, we’re gonna go. Perfect timing, because we had just started listening to the song. We’re like, oh my god, we have to go,” added her friend Valerie Thomas, 16. “He’s kind of silly. Goofy.”

“Yeah, he’s funny. Very unique,” said her sister Olivia, 14. “He doesn’t mind leaning into the weirder aspect. He’s chill with us (fans) making fun of him doing backflips. He plays it off as a joke and doesn’t take himself too seriously, which I appreciate. He just likes to do what he likes to do, and he’s happy with it.”

The cookie, much like the artist who inspired it, blends playfulness and creativity — something young fans connect with.

“It’s very mystical, magical — and it’ll make you do backflips,” all three agreed, laughing.

And they weren’t shy about offering the Crumbl franchise, with over 1,000 outlets nationwide, some advice.

“I think it’s probably good for them to keep it on,” they said. “Just because it’s going to be really popular for a while.”

Crumbl cookie flavors

Crumbl typically releases a new rotation of flavors each week and rarely brings the same cookie back twice in a row.

The Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie marks the company’s first ever encore week, a sign of just how big the demand was in the Northwest and nationwide.

“We definitely saw fans of Benson Boone come into the Richland store. A lot of them were really excited,” Simonson said. “The fan base for this cookie has been different, a lot more teenagers and younger ones. You could tell it meant something special.”

Locally, the excitement extended behind the counter too.

“Yes, some of our employees were definitely fans. I know my own daughter knows Benson Boone’s songs inside and out. They were singing Mystical Magical nonstop when they heard the cookie was coming,” Hatch said with a laugh.

And what about the cookie flavor itself? He gave it high praise.

“I love it. I’m a big fan of the cookies and cream bases we use, but the lemon, berry and marshmallow combo adds a really unique twist. It’s an excellent cookie.”

As of this week, the Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie already racked up more than 41,000 reviews on the Crumbl app and holds a 4.3 star rating. But it’s only available through July 5.

“There’s still time to try it,” the owner said. “ And we’ve got other good options too, like our s’mores brownie and strawberry shortcake. It’s a great week to stop by.”

Kate, Valerie and Olivia even created their own phone wallpapers featuring Benson Boone, customizing them with Mystical Magical, photos, and sparkly edits to match the dreamy vibe of the cookie — and using them as their lock screens.
