Nothing Bundt Cakes sets opening date. A new Kennewick cafe officially opens

One of the most popular cake makers in the country is finally opening a Tri-Cities location.

Sisters-in-law Julie Dawes and Julie Zirker are set to open a Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise in Richland. The location is the first in the Tri-Cities and one of only eight in Washington. The company has more than 400 locations nationwide.

Dawes said they wanted to give back and spread a little joy after the turmoil of the last few years.

“People have had a rough couple of years, and we know Tri-Cities loves their sweets and their treats,” she said. “The way to their hearts is through their stomach.”

Nothing Bundt Cakes is set to have a soft opening this Saturday, and be open for regular business hours on Monday, June 27, in the 110 Gage shopping center at 110 Gage Blvd. Ste. 200.

Tri-Citians might recognize it as the old Mezzo Thai location. Mezzo Thai reopened as Soi 705 at 705 The Parkway in Richland.

Nothing Bundt Cakes offers 10 flavors of bundt cakes in a variety of sizes, with a gluten free option and a rotating seasonal flavor. They also sell small gifts and party supplies.

“It’s just cake. We do one thing and we do it well,” Dawes said. “We don’t mess around with trying to add other things that take away from the core products that started back in a grandma’s kitchen in the 90s.”

They’ll also be hosting a grand opening event July 21-23, with proceeds going to a local charity. They’re in the process of finding a nonprofit partner for that event.

“The franchise is really about joy, about giving back to the community and about lifting and brightening,” Dawes said. “That really resonated with us.”

They’ve got about 20 employees at the bakery, and will be offering delivery around the beginning of August. Zirker said she’s excited to begin sharing their joy with the community.

“I have a baker’s heart. We love Nothing Bundt Cakes and what it represents — bringing joy and happiness,” Zirker said. “We are very excited. We are both from here and grew up here. We’re raising our families here, and this is our way to give back.”

The cakes come in several sizes, ranging from cupcake sized bundtinis to miniature bundt cakes, 8-inch and 10-inch cakes and even tiered bundt cakes.

The current seasonal flavor is Key Lime. Regular flavors include red velvet, chocolate chocolate chip, white chocolate raspberry, strawberries and cream and more. The gluten free flavor is chocolate chip.
