Learn to fish from the pros at free Fish-O-Rama in Richland

Mid-Columbia Fisheries will celebrate the Yakima Delta this weekend with family-friendly activities, including free fishing lessons.

Loaner gear will be available.

Fish-O-Rama is from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Oct. 4 and 5, at the small boat launch west (upstream) of Wye Park, 1600 Columbia Park Trail in Richland.

Free fishing lessons will be held every two hours. The event is open to all ages and skill levels.

The event highlights the unique ecology of the delta, where the Yakima joins the Columbia River near Bateman Island in south Richland. Participants will help scientists collect real time data on fish species.

Participants are advised to register in advance at eventbrite.com.

Go to fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/login for the required fishing license.

The program is being held with support from the Yakama Tribes, the Washington Department of Ecology, NOAA Fisheries, the Army Corps of Engineers and the Benton Conservation District.
