Tri-City Americans

Ams claw back 3 times, come up short against Silvertips

Down 2-0 after the first period, the Tri-City Americans rallied back to tie the Everett Silvertips three seperate times Monday, but in the end didn’t have enough to skate away with a road win against the U.S. Division-leaders, falling 6-5.

It was the fourth straight loss for injury-plagued Tri-City (22-16-5-0, 49 points), a streak that started with a 4-0 loss at Everett (28-16-1-1, 58 points) on Wednesday.

After missing Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Prince George with the flu, Nolan Yaremko returned to lead the Americans with two goals. Isaac Johnson and Parker AuCoin each handed out two assists.

In Tri-City’s four-goal second period, strikes by Jordan Topping and Nolan Yaremko in the first 2 minutes tied the game at 2-all, then it was back-and-forth from there. Connor Dewar scored his second to put Everett on top 3-2 at 10:55, which Yaremko answered with his second at 11:51. Then Patrick Bajkov scored on a power play at 13:23 for another Silvertips advantage, and Johnson leveled it once again at 16:16.

The third period was quiet until Garrett Pilon scored on a power play at 16:43 for Everett’s final lead of the game, and Riley Sutter notched the eventual game-winner on an empty net less than 3 minutes later. Tri-City’s Dylan Coghlan poured in a power-play goal with 15 seconds to go, but it was too little, too late.

Matt Fonteyne had five assists for Everett.

The Americans next host the Swift Current Broncos (31-10-3-0, 65 points) at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at the Toyota Center, where they’ll be for six of their next seven games.
