Soccer: Chiawana shuts out Southridge in MCC opener
CHIAWANA 4, SOUTHRIDGE 0: Ruthie Edrington scored twice and Macey Moreales recorded a goal and two assists as the Riverhawks picked up a road victory over the Suns on Saturday.
Morales opened the scoring for Chiawana (2-0, 1-0) 20 seconds after the opening kick — with an assist from Hannah Haertling — then Edrington made it 2-0 in the 16th minute. Kylee Alvarez scored in the 32nd, then Edrington capped the scoring in the 38th to make it 4-0 just before halftime.
Southridge (0-2, 0-1) has played in the past three Class 3A state championship games, but graduated a hugely influential senior class in the spring.
RICHLAND 8, KENNEWICK 1: Ashley Tonthat had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Bombers (3-0, 1-0) to a blowout victory over the host Lions (0-1).
McKenna Martinez scored twice and registered an assist, Anabel Lin had a goal and an assist, and Sophie Mendoza assisted on Richland’s first two scores.
Emily McDonald and Hannah Hagler each made one save for the Bombers. Reilyn Davis made 15 saves on Richland’s 26 shots.
KAMIAKIN 9, PASCO 1: The Bulldogs (0-1) started fast, scoring in the 1st minute of the game, but the visiting Braves (2-0, 1-0) controlled everything after that.
Aaliyah Valladares had a hat trick and an assist, Maddie Morgan scored twice and MiKayla Hunter had a goal and two assists as the Kamiakin offense put on a show. Izzy Conover, Kaeri Ward and Britney Donais each had one goal and one assist.
