Royal rolls, heads to playoffs with unbeaten record
Royal football may not have the No. 1 seed to the Class 1A state tournament — that belongs to the SCAC West champion Zillah Leopards — but the East-winning Knights proved why they are still the No. 1-ranked team in the state, recording a dominating 70-2 win over Goldendale on Friday night in Royal City.
The Knights (10-0), who will play host to Charles Wright (3-6) in the first round, scored 28 points in the first quarter and tacked on 28 more in the second quarter to pull ahead 56-2 at the half.
Sam Christensen scored four touchdowns — three receiving and one rushing — and Royal’s defense put Goldendale’s offense in the red, allowing negative-5 yards all night. Knights quarterback Kaden Jenks completed 10 of 15 passes for 260 yards and five touchdowns.
