Mid-Columbia roundup for Oct. 30: Vargas, Riverhawks pound Bulldogs

Andrew Vargas rushed for 129 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead Chiawana over Pasco 62-3 in a Mid-Columbia Conference football game Friday night at Edgar Brown Stadium.

The Riverhawks also scored two defensive touchdowns and one special teams TD. Hayden Carrasco returned a fumble 31 yards for a score, and Isaiah Patrick added a 47-yard fumble return.

Trent Simpkins returned the opening kickoff of the second half for 84 yards and a score.

The Riverhawks finish MCC play with a 5-2 record (6-3 overall) and travel to play at Central Valley next Friday in a Class 4A regional crossover game.

Pasco (1-8 overall, 1-6 MCC) will have a nonleague game next Thursday at Edgar Brown Stadium.

Diving

Today’s final three dives in Moses Lake will decide a tight battle atop the Class 4A district standings.

Richland’s Kelsea Hinkley led after preliminaries Friday at Moses Lake High School with her eight-dive score of 315.50. Defending district champion Ali Brandt of Wenatchee was second at 313.50, while Eastmont’s Ali Pierce was third at 310.20. All three have qualified for next month’s state meet in Federal Way.

In 3A diving, with one state allocation available, Kamiakin’s Saige Polanik topped the field with a score of 256.75. Hanford’s Amanda Andersen was second at 246.25. Both qualified for state during an 11-dive meet last month in Richland.

Today’s swim and dive finals are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. (4A) and 5 p.m. (2A/3A).
