Friday night football follow: Prosser cruises to another easy win
The Prosser Mustangs, the second-ranked Class 2A team in the state, stomped yet another Central Washington Athletic Conference opponent, taking down the host Toppenish Wildcats 55-0 on Friday night to improve to 6-0.
Javier Diaz totaled 19 points on the night, scoring two touchdowns — including an 80-yard punt return — and kicking seven extra points. The Mustangs held the Wildcats to 33 yards from scrimmage, including minus-4 rushing yards.
Their next opponent, the third-ranked Ellensburg Bulldogs, probably won’t be as easy to handle.
Prosser has outscored opponents 333-23 so far, and Ellensburg’s scoring differential has been almost as lopsided at 284-29. A much closer matchup is expected when the two teams meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Ellensburg. The Bulldogs won last year’s regular-season meeting 21-14 at Art Fiker Stadium.

OTHELLO 46, GRANDVIEW 42: The Greyhounds nearly staged one of the biggest upsets of the year, giving up leads of 30-15 and 37-28 in a CWAC road loss to the Huskies.
Maurice Prieto ran for two scores and caught two touchdown passes from Anthony Mendoza, and Felix Mendoza and Eric Mendoza each had more than 100 receiving yards for the Hounds.
“Our goal for the game was to either have a 100-yard rusher or a 100-yard receiver. I guess we’ll have to (raise the bar) next game,” Grandview coach Rick Ramos said. “We started to wear down in the fourth quarter. We put a lot of guys out there who weren’t familiar with positions. But nobody can take anything away from our effort.”
Othello entered the fourth quarter trailing 36-28 but then scored 18 unanswered points. Prieto brought the Greyhounds a little closer with a final touchdown catch.
