River View 41, Columbia (Burbank) 14: The host Panthers didn’t have their cleanest night, but still came out on top in an SCAC East battle.
Alonso Mendoza ran for 100 yards and a score and returned a kickoff 85 yards for another TD — plus kicked five extra points — to lead the River View charge.
Quarterback Ruvim Tyutyunnik also ran for 100 yards and two scores and also threw for 127 as the Panthers overcame 120 yards in penalties.
“We had our ups and downs this game,” said RV coach Brett Jay. “Burbank came out and played very tough. It was a close game for a long time. Offensively, we weren’t able to sustain drives very well because we kept shooting ourselves in the foot. But we played well defensively.
“Much respect to the Burbank team. They played well tonight.”
