A Tri-Cities-area quarterback threw 5 touchdowns last weekend. And ran for 3 more
Probably the most eye-opening result last weekend was Royal football falling to visiting Lynden Christian 21-14 on Saturday.
It is a rare loss for the Knights, but Lynden Christian is a great program.
Kade Eldridge led LCV with 146 yards rushing in the game. Eldridge is committed to playing for USC.
Dylan Allred led Royal’s defense with 28 tackles — that’s right, 28 — of which 19 were solo tackles.
▪ Meanwhile, Prosser rolled over visiting Aberdeen 52-14 on Saturday to continue its unbeaten season.
The Mustangs continue 2A CWAC play this coming Friday with a showdown against league rival Ellensburg. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Fiker Stadium in Prosser.
▪ How about Sunnyside? The Grizzlies opened the season with three straight non-conference losses, then beat visiting West Valley of Yakima 41-20 to open Big Nine Conference play.
Dominique Booth rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns for Sunnyside, while teammate Noah McNair caught 11 passes for 158 yards.
West Valley QB Skyler Cassel passed for 470 yards and three TDs in the losing effort.
▪ Michael Lenke is finally a senior at Columbia-Burbank, and he’s going to make this year memorable.
Lenke led the Coyotes over SCAC West power Goldendale by a 56-28 score on Friday night.
Lenke passed for 388 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for 133 yards and three TDs.
In all, he had 521 total yards and was responsible for eight TDs!
▪ Looking up what Kennewick head coach Randy Affholter’s career record is (200-101), it got me to thinking what some of the area’s other coaches were at.
Royal’s Wiley Allred is in his 16th season, and the Knights are 265-28 under his guidance.
Allred’s neighborhood rival, Connell’s Wayne Riner, is just two wins away from 200.
In 23 seasons at Connell, Riner has a 198-64 record.
Richland’s Mike Neidhold has a 109-44-1 record in his 15 seasons as the Bombers head coach.
Meanwhile, Othello’s Roger Hoell has a 108-104 record in his 24 seasons as the Huskies head coach.
Prosser’s Cory Ingvalson has gotten off to a great start with the Mustangs. In eight seasons under Ingvalson, Prosser has a 61-16 record.
▪ Starting to think about playoffs.
Here are the Week 10 playoff games for the Big Nine, Greater Spokane League and Mid-Columbia Conference 4A schools:
Tuesday play-in — GSL 3 vs. MCC 4
Friday or Saturday — B9 4 at GSL 1; Play-in winner at B9 1; B9 3 at MCC 1; MCC 2 vs. GSL 2; MCC 3 at B9 2.
All five winners advance to the state tournament.
As for Class 3A, the state will once again have its round of 32 in Week 10 to determine the 16 teams qualifying for the state playoffs. Last year, Kennewick and Southridge qualified for the round of 32.

CORRECTION: This story has been corrected to reflect the Liberty Christian game with Tekoa-Rosalia was postponed rather than forfeited.
Patriots head coach Craig Lukins said T-R didn’t have enough healthy or eligible players available.
The two teams are trying to find another date to play the game, but if it doesn’t work out, then LC gets the forfeit win.
The correct standings have Liberty Christian, DeSales and St. John-Endicott all tied for first place in the Southeast 1B League. All three squads have 2-0 conference records, with 3-0 overall marks.
