Prosser tops Zillah in first football meeting since 1951
In their first meeting on the football field since 1951, the Prosser Mustangs and Zillah Leopards did not disappoint their fans.
Will Weinmann threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to a 29-21 come-from-behind victory Monday at Art Fiker Stadium.
Levi Vermulm hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass and caught the 2-point conversion from Weinmann to give Prosser an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.
Zillah scored twice in the second to take a 15-8 lead at the half.
Weinman threw touchdown passes to Haden Hicks (10 yards) and Jordan Garcia (25 yards) in the third quarter to retake the lead for good, 21-15.
A 10-yard scoring run by Kord Tuttle with 4:57 remaining helped seal the win for the Mustangs.
Defensively, the Mustangs forced three turnovers. Prosser leads the all-time series 7-1.
Prosser (2-0) plays at Othello on Friday, while Zillah (1-1) opens SCAC West play against Highland.
