Richland, Kamiakin, Royal hold steady in football polls
After big wins on opening night, the Richland and Kamiakin football teams held their ground in their respective polls when the Week 2 rankings came out Wednesday.
Richland, ranked No. 3 in the Class 4A poll, beat Bellevue 24-21, and is scheduled to host Wenatchee on Friday. The Bombers picked up a first-place vote this week.
Chiawana, which came in at No. 10 in the first week of the poll, moved up to No. 9 after a convincing 24-14 victory over Moses Lake last week.
The Riverhawks are scheduled to host West Valley (Yakima) on Friday.
Kamiakin, back at No. 3 this week in the 3A poll, cruised to a 35-6 win over Eastmont last week. The Braves are slated to host Lewis & Clark at 5 p.m. Friday in the first game of a doubleheader at Lampson Stadium. Southridge-Sunnyside will follow at 8 p.m.
In the 2A poll, Prosser, which was No. 10 last week, moved to No. 8 after posting a 22-14 win over 3A Kennewick last week.
Ellensburg, which debuted at No. 4 last week in the 2A poll, dropped out of the top 10 after a getting shut out 42-0 by 1A Royal.
Defending state champion Royal still is at the top of the Class 1A poll, garnering all 11 first-place votes. Connell comes in at No. 2. The SCAC foes face off Oct. 13 in Royal City.
