Small school football: Royal demolishes touted 2A Ellensburg in opener
ROYAL 42, ELLENSBURG 0: Sawyer Jenks threw for 299 yards and five touchdown passes — three to Corbin Christensen — as defending 1A state champion Royal dismantled Ellensburg on the road.
Ellensburg, ranked No. 4 in the 2A preseason poll, didn’t record a first down until the third quarter against the Knights, who led 28-0 at halftime.
Jenks also connected with Angel Farias on a 74-yard scoring pass, and Alonso Hernandez scored on a 1-yard run.
Christensen caught five passes for 143 yards, while Hernandez had 19 carries for 79 yards.

COLLEGE PLACE 34, HIGHLAND 13: Miguel Moreno threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Hawks past the Scotties in Cowiche.
Cameron Lindstrom and Grayson Taylor each caught two scoring passes from Moreno, while Cameron Marshall broke free for a 50-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Defensively, Taylor had three interceptions for the Hawks.

KIONA-BENTON 57, GRANDVIEW 18: Leo Gomez threw for 352 yards and six touchdowns, Daniel Rizin scored four times and the Bears put up 41 points in the first-half to pace their blowout win over the Class 2A Greyhounds in the season opener.
Gomez threw touchdowns to four different receivers, including three to Rizin, who caught eight passes for 155 yards. The senior also took an interception back to the house.

TRI-CITIES PREP 18, LAKE ROOSEVELT 0: In his first game for the Jaguars, quarterback Kobe Singleton threw for 108 yards and three touchdown, and ran for 106 yards on 15 carries to lead Prep to a nonleague road win over the Raiders.
Bubba Valencia ran for 95 yards and caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Singleton.
The Jaguars’ defense held District 6 2B preseason favorite Lake Roosevelt to just 122 yards of offense and five first downs.

Warden’s lone score came in the fourth quarter, on a 22-yard pass from Hernandez to Zach Richins. It was the highlight of a day that saw the team pick up just 138 yards of offense and lose two fumbles.
