Richland’s Hinkley wins Class 4A state dive title
The push for a state title finally paid off Saturday night for Richland High School senior diver Kelsea Hinkley.
After finishing 14th in 2013 and fourth last year, Hinkley won the 2015 Class 4A championship at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Through eight of 11 dives Friday night, Hinkley was in first place, leading Wenatchee’s Ali Brandt by about 12 points. Hinkley finished with a score of 421.70, topping Brandt (399.85) and Eastmont’s Ali Pierce (365.20).
Pierce was fifth and Brandt sixth at last year’s meet. Hinkley and Brandt improved on their 2014 scores.
