1st freeze of the year predicted for Tri-Cities this week
There’s a chance that the Tri-Cities could have its first freezing temperature of the fall unseasonably early Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service forecasts a low of 35 on Wednesday morning, which is the center of a range of a few degrees that it expects could be the low temperature overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
The temperature will be the coldest at 7 a.m. Wednesday, it said.
However, The Weather Channel is forecasting a colder temperature with the low dipping below freezing to 31 under a cloudless sky Tuesday night.
Particularly delicate plants may need to be covered or brought indoors as a precaution.
The normal low for Oct. 14 is 39, and the record low for the date was 22 degrees in 1899, according to the weather service.
Tuesday night into Wednesday morning should be the coldest overnight of the week, with low temperatures climbing to 36 Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. A low of 43 in forecast for Thursday through Sunday nights.
Highs will be in the low to mid 60s this week, with patchy frost forecast for Wednesday morning, according to the weather service.
