The only thing hitting triple digits in the Tri-Cities next weekend should be the speed of the hydroplanes.
The National Weather Service in Pendleton, Ore., is forecasting clear, moderate weather just in time for the 2023 Water Follies Columbia Cup and STCU Over the River Air Show.
The 57th annual event takes place Friday, July 28, through Sunday, July 30.
“It’s just an average, Tri-Cities summer weekend,” said Rob Brooks, a hydrometeorology technician with NWS Pendleton.
A light, persistent 7-12 mph breeze could bring some lingering wildfire haze to the area. But it’s currently uncertain if it will impact air quality.
- Friday, July 28: High of 92, low of 61.
- Saturday, July 29: High of 94, low of 63.
- Sunday, July 30: High of 95, low of 61.
Brooks recommends event-goers to keep a couple things in mind to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of the event.
Make sure to take breaks from long-term sun exposure and find nearby shade.
And, if you’re attending multiple days, make sure to stay cool in the evening while recovering from the heat.
This year’s weather will be a departure from the record-setting heat the region saw last year.
Temperatures at the Tri-Cities Airport hit 110 degrees on July 28 and 112 degrees on July 29, breaking two weather records.
