Heat wave forecast for Tri-Cities. How it could affect Labor Day weekend plans
A heat advisory is issued for the Tri-Cities as more triple-digit highs are forecast.
The National Weather Service has issued the heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday for much of Central and Eastern Washington, including the Tri-Cities.
The weather service forecast three days of 100 to 101 degree weather, starting with a high of 101 on Wednesday. Tuesday was forecast to be almost as hot at 99.
The Weather Channel forecast even hotter weather, with highs ranging up to 104 on Friday.
Overnight lows should start to cool from the mid 60s Tuesday and Wednesday night to the low 60s Thursday and Friday night, according to the weather service.
Ozone levels could deteriorate from a rating of “good” to “moderate” in the Tri-Cities, according to the ozone forecast of the Washington state Department of Ecology and Washington State University.
Highs are usually about 95 in the Tri-Cities in August and lows are usually about 62.
The heat wave should break over the holiday weekend with a high of 92 forecast on Saturday and highs a couple of degrees higher Sunday and Labor Day.
By Thursday, Sept. 8, highs should be down to the 80s, according to The Weather Channel.
Until the weather falls below 100, the weather service advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun and checking in on elderly or other vulnerable relatives and neighbors.
Any strenuous outside activities should be scheduled for the early morning or evening, if possible. Frequent rest breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned building are recommended.
