Deputy Police Chief Brent Cook has been selected to continue leading the Pasco Police Department after standing out from a pool of 16 candidates.
City manager Harold Stewart announced Monday that he selected Cook as Pasco’s next police chief after reviewing the applications of the six finalists.
Cook has been serving as interim chief since March, when former chief Ken Roske retired after leading the department for more than six years.
“It was a very thorough process and I’m glad that we were able to have the leadership of Chief Cook here and to verify we are doing the right thing,” Stewart said during the city council meeting. “He has my full faith and confidence in doing a good job.”
Among the finalists Cook competed against were Pasco Police Support Operations Division commander Bill Parramore; Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, in Michigan, Captain Jennifer Miles; City of Spokane Valley Police Chief David Ellis; and former Los Angeles Police Department Captain Jeff Bratcher.
Cook will now lead the 102 sworn officers of the department he has served for 36 years.
During his career with the Pasco Police Department, he has solved 13 homicide cases and three cold cases.
He began his career as a volunteer reserve officer in 1988 before joining the department full time in 1990.
Over the course of his career, Cook has served as a patrol officer, sergeant, captain and deputy chief, giving him experience in field operations, investigations, training and support services.
Stewart said the city will announce soon the date of Cook’s swearing-in ceremony.
