Poker player celebrating 30th anniversary in Vegas hits jackpot. See rare winning hand
A California man was visiting Las Vegas to celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary and to attend a bowling tournament when he got lucky during a poker game.
He hit the $419,743 jackpot with a rare hand.
The player, who was only identified as John, sat at a table to play Pai Gow poker on July 24, the South Point Hotel said in an email to McClatchy News on July 31.
At one point, he ended up with a seven-card straight flush — meaning his cards were in sequential order and all in the same suit.
“A straight flush represents one of the rarest and strongest hands you can make in a game of poker,” according to Upswing Poker.
The lucky player won the jackpot with cards 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and a Joker standing as a 9 — and all spades.
South Point Hotel is less than a 10-mile drive south of the Strip.
