Lottery player was a number shy of hitting Powerball jackpot, but still won big in NY
A lucky Powerball player in New York won $2 million after narrowly missing the $57 million jackpot, lottery officials said.
The player matched five of the white balls and the Power Play but not the Powerball during the Wednesday, June 19, drawing.
Power Play costs $1 more and raises the Match 5 prize to $2 million.
The winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in Buffalo, according to the New York Lottery.
The winning numbers were 4, 27, 44, 50, 64, and 7.
No one hit the jackpot during the drawing, so the prize money has grown to $72 million for the Saturday, June 22, drawing.
The Powerball jackpot was last hit on June 10 when a New Jersey player won $222.6 million.
Buffalo is in northwestern New York, near the U.S.-Canada border.
What to know about Powerball
To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
