Prominent Hanford engineer appointed by WA governor to trustee seat
A retired Tri-Cities engineer with Hanford ties will bring his more than four decades of experience in the public and private sectors to the Eastern Washington University Board of Trustees.
Moses Jaraysi was appointed by Gov. Bob Ferguson to fill a vacancy on the board. He began his four-year term on May 7.
The retired environmental and civil engineer replaces Vicki Wilson, a former software engineering service manager, who is also from the Tri-Cities.
Jaraysi already has links to the Cheney-based, four-year university.
“As a proud parent of Eagle graduates and a leader with extensive experience working across industries, (Jaraysi) will bring valuable insight and perspective as EWU continues working to meet the evolving needs of our students and the region,” said EWU President Shari McMahan in a statement this week.
Jaraysi is a known name around the Tri-Cities. Before retiring in 2020, he worked as vice president of environmental and strategic integration with Jacobs Engineering.
His career work focused on developing, promoting and negotiating environmental cleanup strategies, and he worked closely with technical professionals, public interest organizations, tribes, and state and federal agencies.
He then became certified as an emotional intelligence coach, according to the announcement.
Jaraysi also served as waste management project manager at Hanford for the state Department of Ecology and later as vice president of CH2M Hill Hanford Group.
He served 17 years on the Columbia Basin College Foundation Board, and eight on the Leadership Tri-Cities Board.
Jaraysi has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Polytechnic of Central London in the UK, and a master’s in management and leadership from Western Governors University.
