Grab those balloons, flowers, and party streamers — it’s officially graduation season here in the Tri-Cities.

Thousands of college and high school graduates will don the cap and gown this spring to celebrate their academic achievements and the start of a new chapter.

Most high school graduations will take place in the first week of June. Columbia Basin College will host three commencements Thursday, June 18.

Many of the ceremonies will be at the Toyota Center, 7000 W. Grandridge Boulevard in Kennewick. The venue has a few rules in place that attendees should know about:

  • Clear bag policy: Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags that do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12” are allowed. Clutches smaller than 4.5” x 6.5” are allowed in the arena. Visitors are required to go through a metal detector to enter.
  • No re-entry: There is a strict no re-entry policy, which means all exits are final.
  • No outside food or beverage: Attendees are restricted from bringing in food, drinks, open and/or sealed water bottles or candy. They will be asked to dispose of those before entering the venue.

Attendance at high school ceremonies are free and do not require tickets to enter. Most do not have reserved seating, so come early.
