A woman and child were hurt after a pickup pulling a flatbed trailer pulled in front of them on Interstate 82 near the Tri-Cities on Tuesday morning, backing traffic up for miles.

A Dodge Ram pickup hauling a Toyota pickup caused the crash when it pulled into the eastbound lanes from the side of the road about 9:40 a.m. between West Richland and Benton City, Washington State Patrol Trooper Daniel Mosqueda told the Tri-City Herald.

The pickup’s driver didn’t notice the white sedan approaching from behind and the car slammed into the back of the trailer.

A woman and child in the car were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening but their conditions were not immediately available.

The names of the drivers have not been released.

Mosqueda said the slowdown was not helped by a number of drivers who were focused on filming the crash. He asked people to pay attention to the road rather than the wreck.
