A 21-year-old from Grandview is hospitalized in the Tri-Cities after losing control of his car on Interstate 82, and he was hit by a semi truck and trailer.

The crash happened about 1 a.m. Sunday on the highway at the Grandview city limits, about 35 miles west of the Tri-Cities, said the Washington State Patrol.

Daniel Estrada Quiroz was driving west on the highway in a Ford Fusion when he lost control and the car careened into the median, rolled and landed in the eastbound lanes of the divided highway, said the WSP.

A semi truck driven by Muzaffar Mamazhonov, 48, of Brooklyn, N.Y., collided with Quiroz’s car.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts but Quiroz was injured and taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. Mamazhonov was not hurt.

WSP said Quiroz will be charged with DUI.
