The gates to get in and out of a Pasco High School football game were briefly locked when someone opened fire across the street from Edgar Brown Stadium.

The Bulldogs were playing against Walla Walla High School on Friday night when school staff noticed a group wearing masks across the street about 8:30 p.m., a letter sent to parents said.

Before officers arrived, someone fired shots in the parking lot of the Sheet Metal Training Center. The training center is run by the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 55 and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association.

It’s not clear who started shooting or how many shots were fired. There were reports that a black SUV might be involved, but there was no confirmation of that.

Pasco police have not shared any information about the shooting.

School officials locked the gates to the stadium and no one was allowed to leave or enter while Pasco police investigated.

While officers didn’t find the shooters, they remained in the area for the rest of the game. They ensured that students, staff and families could safely leave.

Officers also had an increased presence at the homecoming dance out of an abundance of caution, said Anna Tensmeyer, the director of public affairs.

Officials don’t believe that the shooting had any connection with the game.
