A Kennewick teen is accused of pointing a gun at two people during a short confrontation outside of the Richland Walmart.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault shortly after the Wednesday confrontation. He was booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Detention Center.

The teen was in Walmart that afternoon with a group of friends when he made eye contact with another man checking out at the store, court documents said. The teen allegedly tapped a black fanny pack and made a “finger gun.”

Court documents don’t explain how the two knew each other.

When the man walked to his car, he soon discovered the suspect and his friends were in a GMC Acadia parked near him. The 17-year-old was sitting behind the wheel with a rolled down window.

Then he pulled out a handgun with an extended magazine at pointed it at the man.

As this is going on another driver stopped and got out of his car. He asked, “What is going on?”

The 17-year-old responded by getting out of the GMC, chambering a round and pointing the gun at the second driver. Both victims fled the area.

Police were called about the teen, who ran toward the nearby Home Depot when officers arrived. Officers quickly caught him, Richland police said in a Facebook post.
