Kid found alone by road leads to arrest of Benton City dad with meth
A Benton City man is in jail accused of endangering his two children with drugs.
Deputies were dispatched after a child was seen alone near the road by a home on the 400 block of 9th Street in Benton City on Monday night.
The caller said the child seemed to point them to a nearby home where a man appeared passed out in a recliner with an unconscious child lying next to him, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
The caller also said they saw what appeared to be drug paraphernalia around the man.
When deputies arrived they forced their way into home, waking up the man and the child.
The two children were examined by medics and did not appear to have been exposed to what deputies suspect was methamphetamine.
The 30-year-old man was arrested and is being held on suspicion of endangerment with a controlled substance, which is a felony.
The children’s mother, who lives in Richland, was contacted and she took custody of the kids. She does not live with the man, according to the sheriff’s office.
