A 29-year-old suspected impaired driver was seriously hurt in a dramatic Kennewick crash early Thursday.

Witnesses reported that Keanu Ashby was speeding when he ran a red light at the corner of First Avenue and Washington Street shortly after midnight, Kennewick police said in a Facebook post.

His silver sedan slammed into a Ford pickup in the middle of the intersection.

Ashby, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, is believed to have been thrown from the driver’s side into the passenger side of the car, police said. He suffered a broken leg and a cut to his head.

The pickup truck’s driver was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators say Ashby is under investigation for being drunk and high on marijuana at the time. He was cited for DUI.

His condition at a local hospital was not immediately available.
