Richland man accused of ambushing and stabbing his ex’s new boyfriend
A 21-year-old man is accused of ambushing and stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend and leaving him bleeding on a Richland street.
Zachariah T. Jones of Richland had previously threatened the 22-year-old boyfriend, said court documents.
Then, on Sunday, April 27, Jones allegedly attacked the boyfriend about 9:45 p.m. by the trunk of the boyfriend’s Acura along Riverstone Drive near Duportail Street, Richland police said.
Jones reportedly shoved him into the back of the car and the boyfriend reported seeing Jones with a knife. They were struggling over the knife when Jones allegedly stabbed the boyfriend’s cheek and cut his arm and face, court documents said.
The boyfriend then bit Jones’ finger.
After Jones ran off, several people found the boyfriend lying in the street, bleeding and saying Jones attacked him, court documents said. Officers said he was covered in blood near the Acura RSX.
He was treated at Kadlec Regional Medical Center for injuries Richland police called serious.
As police were investigating, they eventually learned that Jones was talking with his father and trying to turn himself in. His father took him to Kadlec for his injuries and police arrested him there.
Jones was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
