A 10-year-old child was wounded in a south Richland drive-by shooting early Thursday.

Someone opened fire at the second floor of Building B at the Orchard Hills Apartments off of Leslie Road about 4 a.m. The bullets punched through the wall and the child was hit twice, Richland police said in a Facebook post.

Family members inside the home called 911 to report the attack and injured child, who was treated at an area hospital.

Detectives found numerous shell casings in the parking lot.

Police were outside of Building B Thursday about 10 a.m. They were looking at about a dozen bullet holes on the second story, including some that punched through a window.

It’s not clear where the child was at the time of the shooting.

Police did not say whether anyone was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Other investigations

The shooting followed two other gun-related crimes at the same Pasco convenience store this week.

Pasco police are continuing to search for the person who robbed a Sylvester Street convenience store at gunpoint.

A man wearing dark clothing walked into to the Sky Market convenience store sometime before 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday. He threatened the clerk with a handgun before leaving with cash.

Detectives searched the area, but weren’t able to find the man, Pasco police Lt. Tom Groom told the Tri-City Herald.

About 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, a drive-by shooting happened outside of the same convenience store, Groom said. The two don’t appear to be connected.

Details about what happened during the shooting haven’t been released, but a shot hit Sky Market’s door, and several shell casings were found at the scene.

Investigators also found a damaged car in another location.

No injuries have been reported.

Anyone with information can reach Pasco police through the non-emergency dispatch number of 509-628-0333.
