2 adults accused of making kids steal from Macy’s. Police need help identifying them
Police are trying to identify two adults accused of directing kids to steal clothing and merchandise from the Macy’s store at Columbia Center mall in Kennewick.
The man and woman and man walked into the store with a teen girl and a younger boy, believed to be about 11, at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Kennewick police said in a Facebook post.
They began telling the kids, believed to be their own children, to load a substantial amount of clothes and other items into baskets, claim police.
When the juveniles tried to leave the store without paying, a Macy’s security officer tried to stop them. The girl immediately ran, and the boy paused before fleeing, said police.
When security officers confronted the apparent father about the children, he denied knowing them.
Security video from the store shows the adults with the kids the entire time, Commander Isaac Merkl said. It also shows the adults meeting the kids later and driving away from the mall with them.
Investigators posted the photos over the weekend in hopes of identifying them.
The woman has dark hair and was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans. The man had a shaved head, pink hat, black T-shirt with “Kenneth Cole” written on it and a silver chain with a cross.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the couple to call the non-emergency dispatch number at 509-628-0333.
