Shots fired during 20-person fight at south Richland park. Teen hurt in brawl
What started with two people meeting for a fistfight turned into a melee in Richland’s Claybell Park Thursday, police said.
Two people agreed to fight each other about 8:30 p.m. at the park located at 425 Broadmoor St., Richland police said in a Facebook post. This grew to more than 20 people gathering.
Initial dispatch reports said multiple people appeared to be attacking one person.
As the fight continued, someone pulled out a gun and fired three times into the air, Richland police said.
As police and park rangers arrived on the scene, the fight had broken up and people were driving away.
A teen was treated at Kadlec Regional Medical Center for injuries that appeared to be related to the fight, police said.
Police found a gun and several shell casings in the area. Detectives are actively investigating and working with the parks department to review any available footage.
Extra patrols will monitor the parks, and police are working on other plans to make sure the city’s parks are safe.
“The Richland Police Department is committed to keeping our city parks and public spaces safe,” the department said in a Facebook post.
