Firefighter hurt, several chickens killed in backyard chicken coop fire in Pasco

Several chickens died and a firefighter was hurt after a fire broke out in a coop on Sunday in Pasco.

Witnesses spotted the burning chicken coop on the 1200 block of South Fourth Avenue about 3 p.m. on March 30, according to a release from the Pasco Fire Department. The fire was also beginning to spread to the nearby home.

Pasco firefighters were able put out the fire in less than 10 minutes and stopped the fire from spreading inside the house, fire officials said.

The fire did destroy the coop and damage the outside of the nearby house.

After airing out the inside of the house, the residents were able to return home.

A Pasco firefighter was taken to the hospital for a minor injury and several chickens died in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
