UPDATE| Suspect arrested after teen shot in drive-by near Kennewick mall
A 20-year-old suspect is in custody after a teen was shot and wounded Friday evening in a drive-by on Columbia Center Boulevard in Kennewick.
It was one of two drive-by shootings reported in Kennewick on Friday night and early Saturday.
In the first shooting, several people called 911 about 5:45 p.m. to report gunshots in the 1200 block of Columbia Center Boulevard near Shari’s Cafe and Pies and Men’s Warehouse across the street from the Columbia Center mall parking lot.
They described at least three popping sounds.
When officers arrived they found a juvenile male near Shari’s with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance. The wound did not appear to be life threatening, according to police.
Officers also requested EMTs to check the condition of two elderly people who were shaken up by the shooting, according to dispatch reports.
Witnesses told police they saw shots fired from a car with two men inside, according to police reports. Police also were able to obtain a photo of the car.
Shortly after the shooting, police found the suspect car at its registered address on the 1100 block of South Olympia Place.
Tri-City Regional SWAT Team arrived, and it did not take long for Adrian Cole, 20, to come out of the residence there, according to police reports.
Cole was booked into the Benton County jail early Saturday on suspicion of first-degree assault in a drive by shooting, according to police and jail reports. Police reports also listed a last name of Garza for him.
Later, at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Kennewick officers heard gunshots on the 1500 block of South Olympia Street, not far from where Cole was arrested.
Several people in the area also called 911 to report the shots.
Officers found several cars that had been hit by bullets and also collected other evidence, according to Kennewick police.
