Kennewick man suffers serious burns after his kitchen erupts in flames

A man in his 40s was seriously hurt in a Thursday morning kitchen fire at a Kennewick home.

A kitchen fire broke out on the 2600 block of West Sixth Place just after 8:20 a.m.

Emergency dispatchers could hear screams of pain in the background, Fire Chief Chad Michael said.

When firefighters arrived, they found a man with significant burns on his upper torso and a fire in the kitchen, Michael said. The man also was suffering from smoke inhalation.

Medics rushed the man to a local hospital, where he was in serious condition, said Michael.

“After receiving treatment to stabilize his injuries, he was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for advanced medical care,” he said in a news release later.

Firefighters extinguish the blaze, which was mostly contained to the kitchen, within 12 minutes, he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
