A man is charged with shooting another man in the face at the Stop and Go Market and gas station in Pasco.

Franklin County prosecutors charged Kenneth Pace, 44, with first-degree assault and illegally possessing a gun.

He is being held in the Franklin County jail on $50,000 bail.

Police were called to the parking lot about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday after reports of an attack involving a gun. When they arrived at 221 S. 10th Ave., they found the victim’s right cheek had been grazed by a bullet.

Investigators soon learned that Pace had left the scene with his sister. As police were investigating, she returned to the gas station and said she had driven Pace away from the scene without knowing about the shooting.

As they were leaving, Pace asked her to stop the car on 10th Avenue. Police arrested him outside of his home on the 900 block of Ainsworth Street.

According to scanner traffic, the SWAT team was called but a relative of the man talked him into cooperating.

Pace told police he had gone to the gas station with his sister. When he stepped out of the car, he heard the other man say, “I’ll shoot you.”

After an exchange of words, Pace said that the other man reached behind the front passenger seat and grabbed a revolver, so he shot in self-defense.

Pace said he opened fire with a .38 caliber handgun he had in his pocket.
