A Tri-Cities man is suspected of murder in a stabbing that left a woman dead and a man in the hospital in Richland early Wednesday morning.
The Richland Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a mobile home on Cosmic Lane near Spengler Street in the area of the Richland Mobile Home Park.
Lt. Damon Jansen said there was a frantic call from someone at the home about 5 a.m.
When they arrived, officers found two people with stab wounds and a man holding a knife, said Jansen at a morning news briefing.
David Joseph Lowe, 29, was booked into the Benton County jail on investigation of murder and first-degree assault just after noon Wednesday.
He has the same last name with the woman who died, but it’s unclear how he is related to the victims. Public records also show he lives at the same address.
The woman who died is Bethany Lowe, 47, of Richland, according to the Benton County Coroner’s Office.
Online property records show she owned the mobile home at 54 Cosmic Lane where investigators were concentrating their efforts documenting evidence found outside.
Police believe the stabbings happened as the call to 911 was made and as they were arriving.
The victims, a man and Bethany Lowe, were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. She died there and the man was in serious condition with multiple stab wounds, Jansen said.
An autopsy is being scheduled.
The other victim’s name was not released by police.
Police believe that the crime was domestic violence and their initial information is that the suspect and two victims all lived at the mobile home on Cosmic Lane.
Richland Police Department detectives were on scene Monday and continued to investigate. There are no road closures.
“Domestic violence truly impacts every area of our society,” Jansen said. “It is a terrible scourge and we would like anybody that is experiencing domestic violence or has further questions about domestic violence to reach out to our partners with Domestic Violence Services of Benton and Franklin Counties.”
Their 24-hour crisis line is 509-582-9841.
Lowe’s death was the second homicide in the Tri-Cities this month. On July 14, a 30-year-old Pasco man was killed in a motorcycle gang-related shooting at a Kennewick intersection.
It marks the ninth murder in Benton County so far this year. That means 2022 is already tied with 2021 for the most murder cases in the county in more than a decade.
