Update | Wounded suspect jailed after gang-related drive-by near Kamiakin High

A mid-afternoon gang-related shooting sent one person to the hospital and forced Kamiakin High School into a lockdown Wednesday.

People in two vehicles driving in the 1100 block of Cleveland Street started firing at each other about 3:10 p.m., according a Kennewick police media release.

A passenger in one of the vehicles, Adrian Torres-Garza, 23, was shot in the hip. He stopped at Second Avenue and called 911. Officers found him and he was treated at a hospital.

Police learned Torres-Garza was one of the primary aggressors, and he was booked on suspicion of drive-by shooting.

The incident happened near Kamiakin High School and triggered a lockdown at the school while police searched the area.

Investigators continue to look for other suspects and believe the shooting was gang-related.
